The 2025 Bahamas National Chess Championship returns as an elite over-the-board event, featuring ten of the strongest chess players in The Bahamas. Throughout nine rounds, these competitors will battle for $2,000 in prize money and the coveted 2025 Bahamas National Chess Champion title.
The chess festivities will kick off with the drawing of lots on Wednesday, January 15th, and the opening ceremony on Friday, January 17th. Following round nine, there will be a public awards ceremony on Sunday, January 26th, 2025.

Format – This tournament is FIDE-rated, with a time control of 90 minutes plus a 30-second increment after each move.
Notation:Players must maintain accurate and up-to-date score sheets during all games.
Registration – Only qualified players may enter. To participate, players must be current BCF members.

Drawing of Lots will be held on Wednesday 15th January, at 6 pm.It is mandatory! The Chief Arbiter will draw the lot for an absent player if the Tournament Director advised that the player communicated his/her absence in advance.
Dress Code – Smart Casual
Award Ceremony – This will be held at 4:00 PM at Traveller’s Rest Restaurant and Bar (Travelers By The Sea). Attendance is mandatory for all participants.
Regulations – The FIDE Laws of Chess will govern the tournament.
Prompt Arrival: Players are expected to arrive promptly for their games. Any players not seated at the start of a round may incur a $50 fine per occurrence, which will be duducted from their prize.
Default time: Players more than thirty (30) minutes late for a round shall forfeit that round.
No prizes will be awarded to withdrawn players.
No draws: A “no draw” rule will be in effect throughout the event, including any playoff games. Players may not mutually agree to a draw. In the event of a claim for a draw under Article 9.2 of the FIDE Laws of Chess (three-fold repetition) or under Article 9.3 of the Laws (50-move rule), one of the event Arbiters must be asked by the players to verify the claim.
No electronic devices: Electronic devices are strictly prohibited in the tournament area. All mobile phones, laptops, electronic watches, and tablets must be powered off and handed over to the Arbiters. Any breach of this rule will result in the forfeiture of that game.
No communication: Any interaction with other players or bystanders is not allowed and may resultin a loss of the game due to a violation of fair play rules.
Only players, arbiters, and organizers are permitted in the playing area after the 5 minute media period.
BCF will NOT responsible for any loss, damage, or theft of personal property on the premises.
