Bahamas Blitz Championship 2015

The Bahamas Chess Federation's final tournament of 2015--the Blitz Championship--got underway on December 28th at T. G . Glover Primary School.  The two featured sections in the 7-round event were Under-16 and Open, and as the players found out, blitz chess is more about quick play than accurate thinking.

The Under-16 section boasted seven players of roughly equal strength which led to intense competition and unexpected outcomes.  Finishing on top was 12-year-old Trinity Pinder of H. O. Nash Junior High.

Her final score of 4.0 points placed her tied with Davonaye Edmond, but Pinder's win over the 10-year-old gave her the edge.

Caleb Roxbury of T. G. Glover Primary edged out Deno Merone and Ivoine Strachan for third place in the hotly-contested section.

In the Open Section, it was former national champion and candidate master (CM) Kendrick Knowles who ruled the day.  Knowles' dominating performance led to a rare, perfect final score.

Closing out in a solid second place was Philip Hanna Jr., whose only defeat was to Knowles.  Following in third was CM Elton Joseph, who stumbled against both Knowles and Hanna to end with 5.0 points.

Full results and photos of the day are shown below:
