CM Nathan Smith captures Bahamas Scholastic Individual 2017
The Bahamas Scholastic Individual Chess Tournament was held on Saturday, February 18th, 2017 at T.G. Glover Primary School. The event which was hosted by the Bahamas Chess Federation fueled a fierce competition between 23 of the Bahamas’ top young minds. The match of the day was between CM Nathan Smith and WCM Polina Karelina. The intense match saw Polina with a time advantage, while Nathan had a material advantage. Going down to the wire, Nathan was able to transfer his material advantage in to a win as Polina eventually lost on time. CM Nathan Smith went on to become this year’s Scholastic Individual Champion –winning in five straight rounds. As an added bonus, Smith walked away with a brand new smartphone for 1st place. Due to a four way tie – there was a sudden death playoff for the 2nd and 3rd positions overall.
