Great Day for Juniors at Fall Classic 2018

On September 8th and 9th The Bahamas Chess Federation held the very exciting The Mednet Group Fall Classic 2018 chess tournament. This was a great opportunity for members of the Olympiad team, to gain some much-needed practice before the World Chess Olympiad that will begin on the 23rd of this month. This was also a chance for junior players to get experience with International standard time controls and gain knowledge by playing against the country’s tops males and females.
The tournament was fraught with unexpected outcomes and excitement in every round. One of the country’s major chess giants was almost taken down by the exceptional play from Van Orense, one of our young junior players.  A former Junior Champion, Philip Hanna just managed to hold on to victory by 6 seconds, after surviving for 20 minutes with only 1 minute left on his clock.  A junior player from the Bain and Grants chess club, Davonye Edmond managed to win against his first adult.  This was a great tournament.

Davonye Edmond Wins Junior Section

In the Junior Section Davonye Edmond from the BGT chess club took first place with 3 out of 5 points, followed by Adam Clarke in Second. Seth Roberts and Trinity Pinder came in Third. The BCF is extremely proud of the improvement and skills of our junior players.
This was the most exciting tournament for the year, the BCF thanks all of the players who turned out, especially the Olympiad National teams, who assisted in the training the next generation and the parents who brought their kids out.
