Independence Tornado 2014

Many people came out to the play in the Independence Tornado celebrating the Countries 41st year of independence. During this tournament, we welcomed a new member as a mother, Fanny Oldfield, joined her son Jake in the event. We are always proud when parents take a hands-on, active role with their kids. We also welcomed back one of our amazing female juniors, Polina Karelina. After a year away from the sport, she still showed why she was one of the top juniors in the country.

There were many fascinating games played and during the first round it became obvious that although everyone came there to win, it was going to be a fun tournament. The most exciting, unpredictable and fun game of the tournament happened in round one and even the best commentators could not have predicted the result.

At the end of the day, veteran junior Malik Sands took first place in the Reserve section, undefeated with 4 out of 4 points.  9 year old Cole Dorsett took second place with an upset in the last round, while newcomer Fanny Oldfield came third.

In the very contested open division, Kenville Lockhart, Ashley Gibson and Sandeep Gali all ended the tournament with 3 points out of 4.

We look forward to all our juniors playing in the Bahamas Junior Championship in August.
