BAHAMAS CHESS FEDERATION MOURNS LOSS OF
Mr. ORJAN LINDROTH
It is with great sadness that The Bahamas Chess Federation announces the loss of a dear friend and benefactor of The Bahamas Chess Federation, Mr. Orjan Lindroth. Mr. Lindroth was a loving father, husband, developer, environmentalist, avid chess player and supporter of the Federation
Born in Sweden, Orjan moved to The Bahamas at a young age. He loved his adopted home and was committed to promoting the sustainable development of our islands, the advancement of The Bahamas and giving back to the sport of chess and by extension the advancement of young Bahamians.
Mr. Lindroth’s generous contributions to The Bahamas Chess Federation gave inner city kids an opportunity to learn chess and to travel to compete for The Bahamas at international competitions. His support assisted the BCF in outreach efforts, made it possible for the First Female Bahamas Olympiad team to participate at the 2018 Olympiad and enabled BCF to host a Grand Master in The Bahamas to train Senior and Junior players. Mr. Lindroth’s love for The Bahamas and his love for chess manifested itself through his donation of books and software to the BCF and the annual sponsorship of numerous BCF events and tournaments most notably the Old Fort Bay Tournament. In 2017, in recognition of Orjan’s significant contributions to the growth of chess in The Bahamas, BCF named the trophy for the National Chess Championship ‘the Orjan Lindroth Floating Trophy’.
Words cannot express how grateful the BCF will always be for Mr. Lindroth’s many contributions. He will be remembered for his numerous contributions to chess which have resulted in the increased international chess ranking of The Bahamas and has enabled numerous young persons throughout The Bahamas to be introduced to the empowering sport of chess.
On behalf of The Bahamas Chess Federation’s Executive Board and all BCF members we extend our deepest condolences to the family of Mr. Orjan Lindroth especially his wife and children.
