The Nassau Cup Invitational 2017 was held in March on the 4th, 5th, 11th & 12th at the Old Fort Bay Club - which would encompass the Bahamas' top chess players.  Among them were Ted Cross, CM Kendrick Knowles, FM Cecil Moncur, NM Valentine Cox, CM Elton Joseph and WCM Polina Karelina.  The event would prove to be a meeting of the "power minds". The tournament would consist of a double round robin with a 90 minute time control plus a 30 second increment. At the start, players seemed uneasy however they would soon gather their footing.  Ted Cross got off to a comfortable lead, being tracked by FM Cecil Moncur and NM Valentine Cox.  Of mention was WCM Polina Karelina who was the youngest of the experienced lot however was able to secure 2 key draws against FM Cecil Moncur and 2 wins against other players.  Going in to the final round Ted Cross had a clear lead and would go on to become the Nassau Cup Invitational Champion 2017.  FA Andre White was the Tournament Director. This event was organized by Bahamas Chess Institute. Thanks to Lindroth Development Company LTD and New Providence Development Company Limited for sponsoring this event.
