After 5 days and 44 hours of competition, the prestigious Old Fort Bay Invitational has finally concluded. The BCF along with the BCI would like to thank the amazing sponsors for making this event possible and their continued support of chess in the Bahamas.
Held at the beautiful Old Fort Bay club, 11 of the country’s top players battled for a chance at the $4000 prize fund. The top players included 2 of the country’s top Junior girls, 16-year old WCM Polina Karelina and 14-year old WCM Daijah Johnson. They left their mark defeating and drawing with the best of the best in the Bahamas.
Remaining undefeated with 6 wins and 4 draws, Ted Cross took first place for the second time in a row after winning the tournament for the first time in 2017. In second place were Franklyn Gibson and Philip Hanna, both tied with 6.5 points.
IA Andre White was the Tournament Director. This event was organized by Bahamas Chess Institute. Thanks to Old Fort Bay Club, Lindroth Development Company LTD and New Providence Development Company Limited, Atlantis Paradise Island and The Center for Digestive Health for sponsoring this event.
