Old Fort Bay Invitational 2019 Fantastic Finish for the Old Fort Bay Chess Invitational
Jacob Leblanc Presenting First Prize award to The 3 time winner Ted Cross
For two weeks eleven of the Bahamas top players battled for a share of an impressive $5000 prize fund. The three invited junior players, all international titled players, took down big names and showed that they were a force to be reckoned with. CM Nathan Smith, WCM Polina Karelina and WCM Daijah Johnson raged ahead with great ferocity, but experience was able to fight back. It was a tournament of endurance, focus and especially preparing for each individual opponent. Filled with many draws and heart-wrenching games it was a tournament to remember. But alas it came to an end and one person came through victorious. In first place, winning his Third Consecutive Old Fort Bay Invitational was Ted Cross. Although he is not registered under the Bahamas, he is a great friend of the country. He helped in training our junior players and, because of his high rating, was a great experience for players in the country. In his last tournament in the Bahamas, he will take home the Old Fort Bay Floating Trophy. In second place was CM Kendrick Knowles the only person to get a win against Mr. Cross. Close behind tied for third was NM Frank Gibson and FM Carver Moncur, the Bahamas’ highest titled player. This was a great event, the BCF and BCI thanks the players for participating and all of the gracious sponsors who made this event possible: Lindroth Development Company, New Providence Development Company, Atlantis Paradise Island, Ed Fields, David Laughlin, Michael Philips, Jacob LeBlanc and the gracious host The Old Fort Bay Club.
