On Saturday, May 12th, the Bahamas Chess Federation held a fun one-day rapid tournament at the Centreville Medical Center. The Polhemus Darling Memorial 2018was held in honor of the BCF’s longest sponsor “Polhemus Darling”.  Even though Mr. Darling is not with us anymore, his company Bahamas Engraving A1 Trophies and Awards continues to support the federation after twenty-one years.
Sixteen adults and juniors participated in the short tournament; it was an exhilarating event, with unexpected results, mistakes, and upsets.  In 2018, the BCF will continue to merge the open and junior sections to help in the training of junior players.  We would like to thank our great members who participated in this event to help the development of the youth.
In the Open section, Woman Candidate Master Polina Karelina took home the first place trophy for the third consecutive tournament. In second place was Chapell Whyms and in third were Woman Candidate Master Daijah Johnson and Clive Stuart.
In the Junior section, the BGT Chess Club dominated the podium, with a great performance by first-place finisher Mikello Victor, second place Trinity Pinder and third place Pride Curtis.  The victory was Victor’s second straight in the junior category.
The BCF extends its thanks to all players who participated, to Bahamas Engraving who sponsored the trophies, and to the MedNet Group of Companies who has sponsored all of the BCF tournaments in 2018.
