Scholastic Individual Chess Championship 2018
Picture
Participants from over 16 schools flooded the halls of T.G.Glover on Saturday to participate in the Scholastic Individual Championship 2018 chess tournament. With more than 50 junior chess players present, forty-nine (49) kids engaged in friendly battles over the chess board. The kids whose ages ranged from seven(7) to seventeen(17) competed in 2 sections, Under 12 and Over 12.
In the Under12 section Seth, who played very well the entire event, lead the field of players until the last round. With his opponent a half point behind, a draw would have won him the section, but Giovanni fought his hardest to prevent that and eventually attained victory.
In the Over 12 Section the three Masters dominated the field, with only Curtis Pride Jr. able to put a small dent, in the reign of one of the country’s three(3) Internationally Titled Junior players. Unfortunately not everyone can win, but they all acquired more skills and knowledge
The tournament was great success. Many of the new kids got their first experience of playing in a BCF tournament and we hope they made friends along the way. The BCF is proud of all the kids who participated; they played well and improved as the event progressed.
The BCF Executive board would like to thank all the parents who brought out or sent their kids to the tournament. The next event for juniors is the Founders Training tournament which should be March 17th.
