Scholastic Team Championship 2015

The Bahamas Chess Federation hosted its largest scholastic tournament in years, as ten teams from public and private schools competed in the 2015 Scholastic Team Chess Championship.

The event was held on Saturday, June 13 at T. G. Glover Primary School and featured some of the country's top young minds, exercising their powers of creativity and focus at the chess board for five hour-long rounds.

This year, C.R. Walker reigned supreme and was crowned as the strongest chess school in the country.  It was 2003 when C.R. Walker last won the championship and, after 12 years, the team of Ithiel Edwards, Marfeeyou Joseph, Davaughn Lopez and Bradley Joseph reclaimed the title.

Coming in second place was the mixed team of candidate master (CM) Nathan Smith of Tambearly School, Daijah Johnson of Aquinas College, and Mycal Stuart and Tray Marc of Anatol Rodgers.  Placing a close third was C. I. Gibson Senior High, represented by Hosea Belton, Clinth Charles, Delroy Stuart, and Jordan Strachan.

In the Primary School division, the pressure was on for the T.G. Glover team to win on their home field.  Determined to better their third place finish of last year, they held off their rivals from Woodcock Primary to take first place.

Winning individual honours for their performances on their respective boards were CM Nathan Smith (board 1), Marfeeyou Joseph (board 2), Bradley Joseph (board 3), and Davaughn Lopez (board 4).
