We have published the Bahamas Chess Federation Calendar of Events for 2023!
This calendar only list local events that are promoted and managed by BCF. Other events like international tournaments and local tournaments managed by schools, clubs, and individuals, may be added later. Each event must first be sanctioned by BCF.
The Bahamas National Chess Championship is the first noticeable change from previous years. This change is due to changes made to BCF Constitution which changed the Annual General Meeting to November. The Nationals will now be held every January.
Going forward BCF plans to consistently hold the Scholastic Individual Championship and the Scholastic Team Championship in March. It is hoped that these two events will drive the Chess In Schools and Junior Chess Programs. It is intended for these to become the main events towards determining the best players and teams in schools.
A female only tournament was add in the month of May. We intend to use this tournament to attract and engage more female players.
The only event listed that's not a tournament is the Chess X Festival. This annual event will help BCF promote, develop chess and also become a major fundraiser.
2023 promises to be a great year for the development of chess in the Bahamas.
